Geological Exploration of Aktogay Deposit by Minerals Operating

The Aktogay deposit, located in the West Kazakhstan region, is a key site for the region’s mineral resource development. In 2023, Minerals Operating (MO) successfully completed a large-scale project involving geological exploration and environmental assessments. The primary objectives were to study the geological structure of ore bodies, evaluate their mineral composition, and prepare recommendations for sustainable development with minimal environmental impact.

This project highlighted MO’s expertise in geological research and the application of sustainable practices in natural resource management. The use of modern technologies ensured the achievement of all project goals within the established timeline.

Stage 1: Planning and Approvals

The project began with the development of a detailed plan that included:

    •    A schedule for all stages of work;

    •    The research methods and equipment to be used;

    •    Expected outcomes for each section of the deposit.

After preparing the plan, the company submitted a declaration of intent (ZOND), allowing for the issuance of necessary permits. Public hearings were conducted simultaneously, engaging local communities to address environmental and social aspects of the project. The stage concluded with the state environmental review, which confirmed the plan’s compliance with international and national standards.

Stage 2: Geological Exploration Activities

During the exploration stage, MO specialists conducted comprehensive studies on two key sections of the deposit.

On the first section, the following activities were carried out:

    •    Mineralogical mapping to refine the structure of ore bodies;

    •    Core sample collection for mineral composition analysis;

    •    Localization of zones with the highest concentrations of valuable components.

On the second section, the focus shifted to chemical and mineralogical analysis of samples. The data collected provided detailed information on the quality and quantity of ores. All samples were transported to laboratories, where tests were conducted to assess the content of metals and rare-earth elements.

These activities provided precise data for developing the geological model of the deposit and evaluating its economic potential.

Stage 3: Final Phase

The final phase included the preparation of the comprehensive project report and the conclusion of fieldwork. During this stage:

    •    A final mineral resource assessment was conducted;

    •    The geological structure of the deposit was refined;

    •    Recommendations were developed for priority zones for development, considering economic and environmental factors.

A detailed environmental report was also prepared, confirming minimal environmental impact. The project concluded with the demobilization of equipment and the transfer of final documentation to the client.

Project Outcomes

As a result of the work conducted at the Aktogay deposit, MO achieved the following key results:

    1.    Refined the structure of ore bodies and localized the most promising zones for development.

    2.    Conducted a comprehensive analysis of ore quality and its industrial potential.

    3.    Prepared an environmental report confirming compliance with international standards.

    4.    Established a database for strategic long-term development planning of the deposit.

The Aktogay project demonstrated MO’s high level of professionalism and ability to combine geological research with adherence to sustainable development principles.
